Home Energy Waster's even if they are TURNED OFF

     UNPLUG WHEN NOT USING

Take a look around and maybe....just maybe you can save yourself some money

We all know we use more energy then ever in our homes. We have gone from the norm, stove, refrigerator, air-conditon/heating and one TV. Today we have so many electronics that are our biggest energy users, newer TV, VCR's, DVD Players, Computers, Printers, just go into each room and look around.

Now take a look outside and in your workshop.  Everything plugs into a wall socket....that means your using electricity.

Here are few things that can help you save a little on your energy bill:

Unplug items you don't use on a regular basis. Example: Hand-held items that are in a charger (drill-hand held vacuum - power drill.

Automatic coffee makers

VCR

Extra TV's in guest room or in the garage

The empty refrigerator or freezer (that is running but empty)

Also, buy a couple power strips, plug items into that and turn off the switch (this works good for your power tools that are on a charger) just hit the switch to turn back on.

The Department of Energy recently said in an article that about 75 perent of the electricity used to power electronics is consumed while the product is TURNED OFF.

Also, if you are going to be away on vacation unplug all items and turn off your water. This will help keep from using electricity and any water damage that could occur from any water leaks.

Gripe - Gripe - Gripe My Shopping Experience

Welcome to the real world is what Ceil said to me:

Ceil was going to run or should I say drive to the grocery so I thought, ummmm it is a beautiful day I'll be a good hubby and go along. WOW! What an experience. Grocery shopping l0l in the 21st Century.

Now tell me. I know I'm old but have things really changed in the last ten years? YES -  Are the cans getting smaller or is it my eyesight? Years ago you could by a can of Pork & Beans and it was a l-lb. You could by green beans and it was l-lb. You could by a can of corn and it was a l-lb. What in the world have they done? Some say 8-oz. and some even say six oz. on the can. So now you have to buy two cans. This is insane, no wonder Ceil says the grocery bill keeps going up.

So the good husband I am I came home and went through the pantry. my heart attack is over. I did find some cans that said l-lb. and even more then a lb. So whipped out my handy camera and took a Pic. for all to see that there is still justice in this world.

I even went one step further to share some very good information with you...like you ladies don't already know all this but I am going to include it anyway.

Some things to do before you go to the Grocery Store:

  1. Search your closets, cabinets, and refrigerators to see what items you need: milk, yogurt, bread or cereal, meat.
  2. Check the expiration date on your bread and when it is expired throw it out in the garbage.
  3. Make a Shopping List that is necessary during the week. It helps if you plan your meals.
  4. Go by the aisles one at a time to see what you need.
  5. Check the sale prices and compare between brands before buying the products. Bulk quantities are often, but not always, cheaper.
  6. Plan how much you're going to spend before paying at the cash register. As you add items to your cart, keep track of the cost in your head or with a calculator to avoid spending over your limit.

Tips

  • Before your regular shopping trip, visit the grocery store and take notes of the contents of each aisle. When you get home, create a shopping list template using spreadsheet or word-processing software organized by the order in which the food is stocked in the store. Create a table with the foods listed in the table headings and large empty cells in which to write down the foods you need. When you compile your shopping list, be sure to write the foods you need in the correct cell. Now when you shop, you can start on one end of the store and work your way to the far end without wandering around aimlessly!  Yea! Just like you have time to do all this.
  • Plan your menu before you shop for the week. That way you'll buy only the items you need and cut down on impulse shopping, you'll buy exactly what is required for the recipes, and you won't be throwing away unused produce as often!  This will help if your on a tight budget.
  • When comparison shopping, always refer to the unit cost rather than the retail cost. The unit cost is what the item costs per pound, per 100, per gallon, etc. Be sure that you are comparing like units when determining which item costs less. We shop at Sam's and they give you the unit cot.
  • Don't shop when you're hungry, this leads to buying unnecessary and impulsive things.Take something to snack on, Ceil always carries cut carrots of crackers.
  •
  • Always look through shopping ads for sales and coupons. Compare two store flyers before your trip to the supermarket. You can find some good coupons online. H.E.B. always has some sales, buy one item and get several items for free. Free is good ugh?

  • Reconsider your items before buying, and make sure you haven't doubled up accidentally (do you really need those six types of cheese, The price of cheese has gone sky-high

  • Bring more money than you think you'll need. There is always something that you need that you forget to put on the list. Stay in the grocery department; if you shop at Walmart you will be tempted to buy some non-food items. Save that for another trip.

Ceil says I am not allowed on the cookie isle.

What I lik best is that my favorite Valveeta is still the same.

Love - Hate Relationship

Love-Em   or   Hate-Em   they are still a very important part of our daily llife.

Trains that is:

Why is it everytime I go to New Braunfels, Texas I catch a train.

                                                            I sit, I wait, I'm stuck.

Oh No...here comes another one or two.

Well accept it and say thank you for trains. They are really kinda neat to watch coming and going (except when you are in a hurry  to get to an inspection) or have to go to the bathroom or you are thirsty or want to get that check to the bank before they close.

Trains are an important part of our daily life and just think how it would be if we didn't have trains (Oh No...more 18-wheelers on the hiway and roadways).

So, as I sit next time waiting for a train in New Braunfels, TX or San Antonio, TX I am only going to have good thoughts and say THANK YOU FOR TRAINS.

If you are moving to San  Antonio, New Braunfels Texas and need a home inspection..Carl Winters #3630 Complete Inspection Service...830-660-0131 also Phase-Inspections for new homes for TRCC. I've been in business since 1994.
